The first hints of spring are blossoming in Tofino. The crocuses have come and gone, and the more frequent warmer days have brought the daffodils out in full force. It is around this time of year that the family of ravens return to the Inn, and nature begins preparing for another bountiful season.

In April, as the grey whales pass by, we will see many visitors and competitors come to town for the much-awaited CANAM surf competition here in Cox Bay, a prized event within the surf community. And while the winding road to Tofino is a beautiful one, driving isn’t the only way to make your way over to this corner of the Island. For those that would prefer to experience the journey by air, a convenient speedy trip and breathtaking views of Clayoquot Sound await. Both Pacific Coastal Airlines and Harbour Air seaplanes offer regular flights to Tofino from Vancouver, making it a breeze to plan your next getaway.

After a tragic fire in December shut down Tofino’s Shelter restaurant, this beloved establishment recently announced that it will be back in a new location. An opening date is yet to be determined; however, we are all heartened to hear that a reimagined and evolved Shelter Waterfront will open at the Tofino Resort Marina. An integral part of the community for many years, we look forward to welcoming them back.

Over in our own kitchen, Chef Carmen and our kitchen brigade are crafting new spring offerings that highlight locally-sourced, seasonal, and foraged ingredients. Halibut, nettles, miners lettuce, wild onion, and watercress make appearances on the refreshed menu, along with lamb from Parry Bay Sheep Farm in Metchosin. Should you be visiting us this season, don’t miss stopping into The Pointe Restaurant to savour the new additions for breakfast, brunch and dinner for yourself!

Finally, as a proud partner of Soap for Hope Canada, we have diverted 3554 pounds (26 bags and 31 bins) of product from the Inn from going into the landfill this past year. Soap for Hope is an incredible organization based in Victoria that fosters sustainability by collecting and repurposing hotel hygiene products, linens, and lost & found products which would otherwise end up in landfills. These products are transformed and distributed through dozens of organizations in the community. We look forward to continuing to partner with Soap for Hope on their mission and supporting vulnerable people in need.
