‘Ghost Coast’ is Tofino-based artist Pete Clarkson’s contribution to the Salvaged Art Project, a multi-artist collaborative effort to raise awareness about marine plastic pollution through art crafted from debris collected on local shorelines. The artworks are currently on display at 8 supporting businesses and organizations throughout Tofino and Ucluelet, including our very own Carving Shed, before they are auctioned off at the Tofino Oyster Fest in November. Celebrate female surf talent at the annual Queen of the Peak Women's Surf Championships, September 28-29 in Tofino. With longboard, shortboard, and Princess of the Peak divisions, this two-day community event showcases Canada's unique surf culture while inspiring future generations of wave warriors. Sanoa Dempfle-Olin is Canada's first Olympic surfer by The Canadian Press
Tofino's homegrown talent shines bright with Sanoa Dempfle-Olin, who recently made history as the first Canadian to represent the country in Olympic surfing. Competing in the 2024 Olympics at just 19 years of age, she impressed judges with her courage and skill, demonstrating that she belongs on the international stage. As a testament to her abilities, Sanoa secured a silver medal at the 2023 Pan American Games, solidifying her place in Canada's surfing legacy.
Dive into captivating stories of land, sea, sky, and people of the area at the Kwisitis Visitor Centre, open daily from 10 am to 5 pm. Featuring exhibits designed collaboratively by the Nuu-chah-nulth Working Group and Parks Canada, the centre offers an immersive experience which showcases the area’s rich history and ecosystems.
