Our Sustainability Journey - ACRD Recycling Program
Article Information & Social Sharing
Sustainability is woven into the fabric of both our values and our day-to-day operations. Since our inception, we have endeavoured to preserve the beauty and natural integrity of where we live. This is reflected in our dedication to continuously reassessing and furthering our efforts to implement sustainable practices.
While the Inn has had an extensive recycling program for some time (everything down to our pens gets separated and appropriately recycled!), there has been no larger-scale organics collection system in Tofino up until now. We are excited to share that the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) is bringing an organics collection program to Tofino and Ucluelet residents, extending the program to businesses in the spring of 2023. As we wait for this program to become available to us, we are already working on training our newest team members on best practices ahead of time.
Our onsite composting program currently supplies soil used throughout the Inn's grounds in our landscaping. Looking to the future, our bigger vision is to create an onsite herb and vegetable garden. This would be a multi-year undertaking, working with our kitchen department to design a garden which would open the door to even more local and sustainable options for our menus. It's a project we are inspired to plan for the long term and ensure it is built in a way that protects both the environment and local wildlife.
We see sustainability as not an end goal to arrive at but a constantly evolving practice that shifts and changes as we learn more. Being on this dedicated journey toward sustainable tourism is one we are proud to see our entire team embracing, and we continue to take strides in moving the needle a little bit further every day.
