Originally opened in 1942 as “Lake Louise Ski Lodge,” the Post Hotel started as a small operation built by 10 men using mostly hand tools. It has changed hands, expanded and modernized since those humble beginnings, but there’s still a charming essence of that rustic history in its character. Now with added comforts of an elegant spa, fine dining and exceptional amenities, the Post has become an international destination, not to be missed at any time of year.

Located at the heart of Banff National Park, a range of outdoors activities are just out the door. With rooms, suites and cabins in the centre of Lake Louise village, the Post is just five minutes away from some of the most seriously epic ski slopes in the Canadian Rockies. Powder days will lead into cozy nights in during the winter months. Summertime in the mountains means hiking to picnic on the top of rocky peaks and seeing the emerald glacier lakes in contrast to the stony monuments around them. Back at the Post’s Temple Mountain Spa, you’ll find an array of treatments and their Roman-inspired saltwater pool to loosen any muscle tension from your outdoor escapades.

Dining options range from exquisite fine dining at the Post Dining Room and Swiss-style fondue at the Stübli beside, to their English-style pub and more casual aprés-ski lounge. Not to be missed are the incredible offerings of the Post Hotel’s wine cellar, it is second to none in the country. With a selection of over 2300 fine wines—one of the most comprehensive wine menus in Canada—their passion for wine was clearly an inspiration in fulfilling our own dream of Howard’s Wine Cellar, now open at our Pointe Restaurant.

As a family-owned and run business—a trademark of Relais & Châteaux properties—there are plenty of personal touches hearkening back to the simple enjoyment of the outdoors to admire at the Post. If you’re travelling to or from a visit with us on the coast, be sure to plan time to pause there along your way.
